In my experience, most folks that don't like the gutter guards had unrealistic expectations of what they can do and/or bought the cheap garbage ones from their local box store. But as with most things in life, there are tradeoffs. IMO the short answer is yes, if you have trees anywhere reasonably close to the house they are usually worth it - heck, I have them on my own house. GC here that does a lot of roofs, gutters, and gutter guards, among other things. But if the idea is you never need go up on a ladder again, then it's a waste of money because maintenance is required. I suppose if you annually spray the mesh to dissolve those minerals, then you might get many useful years out of the product. I ended up pulling the mesh product off and just keeping the lattice work that fits over the top of the gutter. While up on the roof with the roofing salesman, I inspected the gutters and I found that perhaps 75% of the length was occluded by mineral deposits and this is what caused the rain to run directly over the front of the gutter. About that same time I realized that during rainstorms we were getting a lot of runoff directly over the gutter instead of directed to the downspouts. ![]() Two years ago I needed to have my back roof re-shingled and decided to redo the front roof at the same time. That maintenance involves spraying a product that dissolves mineral deposits. Here’s the issue: what the company does not tell you is that there is some maintenance for the mesh. Had a nationally marketed brand put up 15 years ago when my front roof was re-shingled.
